half-way.

"i will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it."
~ carrie bradshaw

it is the middle of july (1/2 way through summer, eek!) and i have major summer-itus, otherwise known as i-don't-want-to-work-i-just-want-to-play-all-day syndrome...but i realized today that my summer clothes selection is sad, i have honestly been wearing the same thing since last year and other than a few new crispy white wife-beater staple tanks, i have not stepped inside a store to rummage for deals. i think this is an excellent time of year to look for the early summer clearance before stores in maine start stocking winter coats in august! here are a few items i hope to find in my adventures this coming weekend, just one rule - items must be under $20:

tuesday.

“deep summer is when laziness finds respectability”
- sam keen

so i was totally waxing philosophical in my mind tonight while picking blueberries and i thought i would share and rant or whatever, but i just don't have the energy (lucky for you!). so i will share some photos from today (new & from the garden) and plead summer-itus as reason for my light blogging style as of late, hearts to all.

rock the casbah.

ok, so it may have taken a week, but here are my favorite images from visiting emilia in sutton/worcester...a place where it's ok to call into a radio station and request the rock classic "rock the cash bah"...seriously, i almost peed my pants!

a trespassers garden tour at the neighbor's house.

i want a back porch, with chairs for flowers & antique candlesticks.

secret garden anyone? and a watch bird.

vincent's and a downtown skyline.

vincent's backyard, complete with random cabin, rocking chair & gnome.

the first.

“one must ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste.”
- goethe

the first native strawberries are coming into season here in maine and last night my mom brought some home from a local farm. when my dad asked her how much they were, she just said, "you don't want to know, just enjoy them." it made me very excited because this morning i got up and put the scarlet beauties atop my cereal, this - along with a glass of concord grape juice - makes up my favorite summer breakfast (until local blueberries come into season!). good things come in small green boxes.

bocce baby.

"summer afternoon - summer afternoon... the two
most beautiful words in the english language."
henry james (1843 - 1916)

my mom bought us a bocce set for the house last week and on friday we opened it up to find - NO instructions!! it was only like 10 bucks on sale, but still - a note with directions would have been appropriate. so i googled the rules, but not before we decided to just play for fun on the front lawn with the kids. i remember that when i was in college a group of guy friends chipped in and bought a proper (read: not-plastic-from-target) bocce set and once they had mastered the regular game they made up "extreme bocce". i was mostly an extreme cheerleader, but it was A LOT of fun to play & watch. maybe i can use my silly set for some extreme entertainment over the summer:)

hump day.

i think that june has arrived about a week early here in maine and i'm loving it - where is the best place to get a non-hootchie, inexpensive/dirt cheap and comfortable swim suit for a tall gal? this is my new mission...more to come ;)
