risky business.

so i have finally gone back to the gym after a back injury that had lasted most of this fall. i am hoping that after a few days of getting used to this addition to my schedule, i will be back on track and full of energy to post and post and post on here...but here's a little laugh for monday, some of the guys i would maybe like to, but probably won't meet at my gym! (my favorite is tony hawk on percussion!)

the videos keep on coming, vote for change november 4th:

“I look at these people and can't quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked."

lost and found.

back when i was in college at bennington, i spent many days and many MANY long, loopy nights at our campus costume shop. for hours, i would labor over blind stitches and weather denim till my fingers went numb, usually laughing hysterically (we called this "head-joy" when everything becomes SO funny because you are SO tired!) and rocking out to madonna or lauryn hill or portishead or simon & garfunkel. so many of those glorious times were spent along side leah*, who always signed her name with a star and greeted you with a smile.

well, if there is one thing to be said for facebook & the like, it's that finding old friends and seeing what they are up to these days becomes a little easier and a few months ago i reconnected with leah* (a fellow maine-iac, now transplanted in san fran, ca). her lovely designs and style have followed her west - point & case, her blog L'stell which features resource links for locals and new designs available in her online shop. do check it out - if you like handmade gems, attention to detail and vintage fabric you'll have major hearts for L'stell. lobster, hugs and kisses leah*, from the east coast to the your's!

awkward.

this is only awkward if you find that delicate and beautiful scarves make you uncomfortable...i do not, i lurv them. i would wear a scarf any day of the week, on a boat, in a moat, with a goat...you get the gist! awkward is making some of the prettiest handknits i've seen, PLUS they have handspun yarn...in a word: YAY. i am really loving this color: and i am putting this scarf on my wishlist: oh, yeah AND this lil punkinhead! big thanks to scoutie girl for the heads up:)

sunday.

there is something about a sunday that gives me anxiety - time wasted over the weekend that slipped by too quickly, the impending work week, etc. i also think - what will i blog about this week? am i feeling inspired? i actually know that as the days get darker and colder i will feel inspired to basically get under a fleece blanket, so if my posts get thin don't worry, i promise to not completely hibernate. here's just a few links of love, to make up for being absent on friday! i hope everyone had a wonderful weekend that was relaxing and productive :)

just say no.

ok, not to bombard you all with political opinion & video BUT, this PSA-styled ad is genius.

p.s. has anyone else encountered people lately (usually older folks OR closet republicans) who would rather not vote than vote for either candidate? i find this phenomenom utterly amazing, especially when i consider (with fear and an escape plan in my heart) a world under mccain-palin administration! this video is for them...don't do it, just say no to mccain-palin.

the great debate.

so here it is, tonight is the last presidential debate of '08. today i am sharing my favorite videos and sites from this election season - register, be heard...i plan to barack the vote.

this site let's you find out what % your beliefs compare to the candidates, i am 78% barack according to them, but so is everyone else i know that has taken this quiz!

be inspired. inspire others - HOPE.ACT.CHANGE.

when was the last time you guilt-tripped your grandparents? go ahead and schlep.

we are the ones.

gray day.

“it's designed to break your heart. the game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains comes, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone.”
- a. bartlett giamatti

dude, the weather & the head stuffyness is seriously taking a toll on my personality...i think i need a sad machine...once i knew someone with a sad machine and when they weren't at home i would sit by it and get happy. will try to be more enlightening tomorrow.

spiced cider.

apple cider martinis in the orchard by thingsihearttoday

i heart fall! what i really heart is the surprise week in october when the weather is deceptively warm right before it really gets cold and the leaves explode with color. recently emilia talked about having a barn party and ever since i have been looking for an excuse to have a mulling party - cider and conversation, heels and scarves - just friends sitting around a wood stove with a cider-filled, cinnamon scattered cauldron on top...it's the stuff of magic. now that i've got the outfit, all that's left to do is plan.

outfit details here.

countdown to november.

"whoever wins this election, bush's impact has changed the world. this man has left us with three wars — in iraq, afghanistan and the war on terror — and the legacy of the pre-emptive strike. these are legacies that will haunt his successor for years. it's good for people, before the election, to think about who they elected eight years ago and about where we are as a country right now."

vacancy...

...if you dare! here is my neice danica & nephew brody's version of the martha mouse motel (they call theirs a rat motel, because it is more "creepy") the evening was full of pumpkin guts and slimy hands and then my brother got out the power tools - you can imagine the joy & awe in the eyes of any 5 & 8 year old when that happens. as martha says in her instructions - step 4. listen for screaming neighbors. i seriously recommend this spooky and fun craft.

devil wears doe.

ok, so i know that this is WAY outta anyone's budget...but - each piece is so lovely that i couldn't leave them out and be price-ist...dream with me would you? imagine that you have a job where sparkles are appropriate during the daytime hours (a job that wouldn't get you arrested, let's just say) and that job may also include fancy $12 drinks, expensive baubles & prada heels after hours...are you with me? keep your eyes closed because this happy place was inspired by my doe colored birthday and i took an outfit cue from my favorite gal, check out her evergreen set.

what's your color? what's your dream outfit? prices & details on mine here.
