1998.

"for what it's worth it was worth all the while"
~ green day

so tonight i had a meeting for my 10 year high school reunion...oh boy! 1998 was a lifetime ago and still feels like yesterday at the same time. i sat around a table of friends (luckily!) and as we talked i knew that as far as i have come and all that i have lived through - i can still turn into the insecure girl in an instant when i recall high school sports, friends/rivalries, struggles, EVEN though i know better. i still think of the good ol' days with the hard ol' days and while i'm excited to see people and hear about their new lives and families...part of me wants to crawl into a hole or move back across the country to california. in remembrance of the year that started the new and ended the old, here are some memory snacks from 1998 to remind you:

- titanic was big at the oscars with 11 wins
- 1st class stamp: $0.32
- last episode of seinfeld
- there's something about mary changes the way we think about hair gel
- fda approves viagra
- sunny came home by shawn colvin was #1 at the grammy's
- afi lists top 100 films of all time headed up by citizen kane (#5 was one of my faves, wizard of oz)

lastly, it was during the ice storm of 1998 in maine when my family was camped out at my grandparents house...in one room...without power or water...and it was my 18th birthday. 1998 was a big year personally - i left high school and started college, i left old friends and family and met new friends and chose new family in those friends. the best summation of the feeling i get when i look back is within the senior song - time of your life by green day (and a senior quote i can't remember, but will track down!).

i can't believe it's been 10 years already...
